How to Protect Your Account

Knowing and protecting your Ripple Wallet account information is very important. Ripple Labs cannot recover your account information for you.

Why can’t Ripple Labs recover my log-in credentials?

Ripple is a decentralized network – a peer-to-peer system with no central authority; thus there is no entity in Ripple who can grant someone access to your funds other than you. Ripple Labs does not administer the Ripple network, and the network has no administrative functions.

What is the “secret key”?

Your secret key starts with “s” and is presented to you upon your first log-in. You may also access it by selecting “Security” on the left navigation menu when you’re logged into your Wallet, and clicking “Show my keys.”

The secret key is a unique string of letters and numbers that starts with a lowercase “s.”

Never share your secret key with anyone! If anyone gets the Secret Key, they can take all your money. Don’t let this happen.

What is the “public address”?

Your public address starts with “r” and can be found on the “Receive” tab when you’re logged into your Wallet.

Every Ripple Wallet has a unique public address, which is a string of letters and numbers that starts with a lowercase “r.”

You can share your public address with everyone. People use your public address to send money to your Wallet.

Please understand the difference between the secret key and public address and be careful.

  1. Because your system took so long to complete the transaction, I wound up creating two ripple accounts. Now, neither one works. What gives?
