Ripple: building with XRP since 2012

In 2012 David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto launched the XRP Ledger, with its native currency XRP. Inspired by Bitcoin, they set out to create a new way of transferring value without the energy costs and potential centralization concerns associated with mining.

In September of that year, the company that is today known as Ripple was founded. 80 billion XRP were gifted to Ripple so that the company could build use cases around the digital asset.
