University Blockchain Research Initiative
The first program of its kind globally, Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) reached impressive new milestones in 2022. The program added five new partners, expanding our partnership network to fifty of the world’s top universities and has now facilitated more than 1,000 research papers and technical projects to date.
UBRI continued to be at the forefront of diversifying the fintech workforce, sponsoring the 2022 National HBCU Blockchain and FinTech Conference and collaborating with Historically Black Colleges and Universities like Morgan State University to engage and empower more women and students of color to pursue careers in blockchain and crypto. The goal is to ensure a more inclusive and equitable future for our global financial system.

Leading the Way on Global Crypto and Fintech Sustainability
The role of corporations in achieving globally agreed upon climate goals is critical. In 2022, Ripple not only made progress toward our own target of reaching carbon-net-zero by 2030, but continued to advocate for sustainability throughout the crypto industry and co-founded Blockchain for Climate (BxC), launched in Davos.
Ripple made a $100M commitment to invest in blockchain technology as a potentially transformative tool for modernizing and scaling global carbon markets, including tokenizing high quality carbon credits on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), bringing them to market faster and more efficiently than ever before.
